So I took a three month hiatus - It's allowed me to center myself and dedicate my efforts to watching new fall TV series, examine how crazy good the Lakers will be this year and reliably predict how the Mountain West Conference will play out. Even though team have played a few games, I think I throw my predictions out there. Without further ado, here it is:
You gotta have BYU, Utah and UNLV a small notch above everyone else. BYU returns too many good players in Tavernari and Jimmer Fredette (which sounds like a complication of the swine flu virus) and Utah has some talent back as well. UNLV has the most new faces to assimilate but if Jasper and Stanback are only 70 percent as good as advertised, they'll be as good as they were last year. From the first couple of games, you can tell that this is as athletic as the Rebs have been in years, definitely since Bayno was run out of town. On the second deck, just a tiny notch below is San Diego St and New Mexico. Both these teams make me nervous. This is Alford's third year, which should be his breakout year and I really think they might make a run in February and March to get in. If they can get some quality wins out of conference, watch out for them. The Aztecs are as usual, very talented but they lose much of their experience and leadership that got them within a game of the dance last year. TCU probably belongs in this category as well and they have some players that made some noise last year still here. Colorado State and Air Force have pretty low expectations. Either team will be lucky to win a league game on the road. Wyoming is the X factor and will ruin some teams hope to dance.
I really hope the conference can win some good games out of conference this year so that when they beat each other up in league play, the league doesn't take the RPI hit that it did last year when only BYU and Utah got in.
Here's your Larry King segment...Pick up the new Dave Matthews Band CD, it is their best since Everyday...SNL is back and Kristin Wiig is the best player since Will Ferrell left, it is truly at its best when it is funny and makes a point...Waiting to see how many high profile coaches turn down the Redskins job, especially after Holmgren, Shanahan, and Cowher all said no thanks...I think visitor counts will slowly increase through 2010 and by this time next year, visitors will be back in Vegas and the opening of the new airport terminal will provide a boost. Rates will still be below pre-boom levels but the more visitors in town, the more jobs for people...Andre Agassi did meth at the lowest point of his career and his life right after his relationship with Brooke Shields fell apart, the drug really explains a lot-I read the excerpt from his book in SI and I was stunned that his father continually drove him to be better, almost to the point where he wanted to quit tennis (isn't that the requirement for damaged tennis players who are successful?)...Best new show I've been following is Modern Family and the best new show I haven't had time to follow is Flash Forward, don't tell me anything that happens yet-I'll watch it on Hulu...Most underrated show evah - How I Met Your Mother, best show since Friends and nobody still is watching it...Still can't get into MMA, although good news: my two year old son is transfixed by it and I can't wait for him to tell me all about it...Good luck to the UFL's first season, RIP XFL...Early names for the Rebels football head coach include Franchione, Koetter and Kirby Wilson the running backs coach for Steelers, interesting first list, let's see who they can con into taking the job. Ta ta for now, blog readers...
